| Dr. Jack Berdy, CEO & Chairman
In the 1960’s Jack Berdy did undergraduate work in microbiology at the
University of Maryland. His interest in computers, however, led him to
found On-Line Software International in 1969. In September 1982 the firm
went public, and was soon one of the few software vendors listed on the
New York Stock Exchange.
By 1991, On-Line Software
was one of the United States' largest software vendors,
with annual revenues exceeding $100 million. The company
offered three dozen packaged software products and
employed over 700 people worldwide in seven domestic and
five international offices. In August 1991 Computer
Associates International, Inc. acquired On-Line Software.
Though successful in the high-technology
arena, Jack Berdy's interest in medicine
never faded. In 1989 he went to medical school at George
Washington University, even as he retained his management
control of On-Line Software as Chief Executive Officer
and Chairman. Dr. Berdy then received his M.D. in 1993 from
Mount Sinai School of Medicine of New York.
In parallel to his residency, leading to his Board
Certification in Internal Medicine, Dr. Berdy founded Berdy Medical
Systems Inc. which developed SmartClinic and implemented SmartClinic at
many medical facilities throughout the United States. In 2004
Berdy Medical Systems was sold to a company on the American Stock
Exchange, and the SmartClinic Electronic Health Record was subsequently
re-acquired by Dr. Berdy now under the corporate banner of VIP Medicine,
LLC.
Now other physicians
can leverage Dr. Berdy's business expertise and technical
insight with a new generation of clinical information
systems products.
VIP Medicine's blend of clinical,
technological, and management expertise stems from the unique background
of its founder, Dr. Jack Berdy.
The company was founded on the
premise that the creation of a truly worthy product can
occur only after a clear understanding of user needs is
achieved. To this end, the company devoted year's
of effort to analyzing the complex legal, regulatory, and
environmental issues surrounding healthcare informatics
requirements. It conducted extensive market research,
including interviews with physicians, nurses, medical
record personnel, administrators, payroll and other
healthcare constituents, to gain insight into their data
processing requirements.
